We are deeply saddened to announce the death of Sharron McDonnell on Thursday, November 14. She passed away peacefully and quietly under a full moon, at her treasured home in Mayo, with her husband and son by her side, following a courageous battle with lung disease.
She leaves behind her beloved husband of 51 years, Robert McDonnell, her son John McDonnell, her daughter Rosanne McDonnell (Serge Mongeon), former son in-law John Abraham, her doting grand children, Ryan and Keith Abraham and her sister in-law, Doris Prevost (André). She is predeceased by dear her sister Ann Marie, her parents Nora and Edgar Lafleur of Buckingham and brother in-law Clarence McDonnell.
Sharron’s career was spent primarily at Scotiabank in Buckingham, where she was appreciated by colleagues and clients alike. Outside of work, her passion was her home, her family, her animals and her community. In 1993, she became the first woman elected to the Mayo municipal council.
The family would like to thank Doctor Valiquette who provided care at the Papineau CH-CHSLD (Buckingham Hospital) and Doctor Guilbeault of the CLSC de la Basse-Lièvre, personal care workers, Josée and Shirley as well as the many other professionals who provided care and comfort during her illness.
The family extends a very special thank you to her longtime friend and neighbour Ari Brookes who spend countless days by Sharron’s side, keeping her company, sharing stories, and attending to her every need. Ari’s kindness and generosity was a bright spot in an otherwise difficult period for Sharron and her family.
The family will be receiving condolences beginning at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 30 followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 AM at St. Malachy’s Church at 3889, route 315 in Mayo, Quebec. Following the funeral mass, the family invites family, friends and neighbours to gather at the family home at 586 Rivière-Blanche Road in Mayo for recollections, food and drink (drop-in any time between noon and 4:00 PM).
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society’s Ottawa Valley Chapter - https://donate.cpaws.org/page/26388/donate/1
