Glenn Joseph Michael Somers
It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our brother, brother-in-law and uncle, Glenn, on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, in his 62nd year.
Glenn was the beloved son of the late Nora Ryan-Somers and of the late Earl Somers. He was predeceased by his brother, Harold. Glenn is survived by his siblings, Danny (Lynne), Mary Jean (Steve) and Elaine (Christian), and his three nieces, Kate (Kelsey), Sarah (Chase) and Camille (Jared), whom he adored, and who adored him in return. Glenn is also fondly remembered by Lynne’s children, Rachela (Jeremy) and Gordon (Kendi). As well, Glenn leaves behind his uncle, Wilbert Somers, his aunt, Eleanor McDonough, cousins, and many friends.
Glenn was a hard-working, kind-hearted and generous man, who enjoyed the company of his family, work colleagues and his friends, always demonstrating a particular love for children and for animals. He was always eager to offer help, and always prepared to volunteer when the need arose. Glenn had a particular gift for easily engaging people and for socializing, and had a wonderful sense of humour, which resulted in him establishing an extensive network of friends and contacts.
Glenn lived for years at the Ryan homestead in Quinnville Que. After his retirement, he recently relocated to reside at Long Lake, in the Mayo area, where he was warmly welcomed and supported by the local community. Following his career at the City of Ottawa, Glenn continued to very much enjoy part-time employment, working locally operating heavy equipment for snowplowing, and trucking, as well as enjoying his many adventures snowmobiling and touring on his Spyder with relatives and friends. He will be greatly missed by his family, and by all those who had the good fortune of knowing him.
Glenn’s family wishes to particularly thank all those living in the Long Lake community and surrounding area, who supported Glenn during these past months of his illness.
